Unfortunately for Ryan, this resulted in a prolapsed disc, forcing him to undergo back surgery in March 2012. The recovery period of sitting on a sofa and then a job involving driving meant the pounds piled on. However, as soon he was given the all clear Ryan started running again - soon finding that the fitter he got the more he wanted to run. Ryan has a busy home life with two young children, so he will need to balance his training around family. In addition to getting more sleep, Ryan also needs to overcome the miltary mentality of giving it your all when it comes to training!
