Running in the dark
- Posted: 1st Feb 2013, 12:38Report
As we all know if we want to get out and about at this time of year running in the dark is a necessary evil, so a torch is a fairly essential bit of kit however.... If I run with a torch the instinct is to look at the white spot of light in front of you and not take in other things around you, be that uneven ground, animals or just enjoy your surroundings. I can recall more than one occasion where a dog walker in the middle of a field waving his torch around failed to see me (in high vis gear) resulting in a torrent of abuse because he was only staring at the light and was oblivous to his surroundings. I am not suggesting running in blacked out gear without a torch, but the reliance on a torch causes as many problems as it solves. Keeping the torch off unless approaching someone to my mind is a far better way to be... has anyone else had similar experiences, or particularly good put downs for torch obsessed dog walkers!?
