My advice is to go to a good shop like Sweatshop or runners need and spend an hour trying on loads of trainers, I've had very expensive trainers and cheap ones, the best ones are those that fit the best, not the most expensive.

I read somewhere that Eddie Izzard did his 40 something marathon endurance feat for Sport Relief last year in New Balance. Considering the dude normally wears heals, and ran such an amazing distance, I reckon that's a pretty good testimonial.

get a proper fitting at a specialists as suggested above. They'll analyse your gait and recommend shoes that suit your style and your training. Once you have a brand/model that works for you, you can seek them out online at lower prices. Asics have always been great for me

I like the Kayano and have selected them for my last 4-5 purchases. Keep an eye out at Sports Direct as they are usually 25-30% cheaper than many running stores even before they have a sale. Also, you can pick up older lines of the same shoe quite reasonably as the newer versions are released.

Aasics have always held out well for me, the rest seem to fall apart on me, possibly because of how I run but these current Aasics have seen a couple of marathons and other distances and arre still ok for everyday use so I would recommend them as a brand.

I've been wearing Brooks Green Silence for the last few months, did 11 miles on Sat and 8 miles on Mon with no problems. Minimalist shoes so no cushioning but I have to say they are the most comfortable shoes I have worn.. And they were only £29.99 (£4 delivery) Sportsdirect or through Amazon. Not sure if the cheaper 1's are last years colours?? and colours aren't to everyone's liking but they are plant based? I think?? A very green shoe, 70% of sole recycled (I think), sole is very similar to the sole of a croc, very spongy but with some harder bits at the strike points. Anyway, they work for me and are only £30.00... Bargain!!

Shoes are particular to your bio-mechanics, asking others what they wear does not really help you unfortunately, on the contrary it could well lead you down the wrong path. As others have said, go to a place where you can get expert advice and the use of a treadmill.
