Achilles Tendon and stiff lower leg issues

  • Posted:
Hi I'm new to this site but not running. I have been experiencing stiff lower legs after runs and a very painful Achilles tendon. I have the correct shoes and stretch before runs. Has anyone got any exercises that would help or any other ideas I could try?? The pain in the Achilles is very localised and there appears to be a small lump!!! Help!

I have had simular problems with the achilles and sore/stiff calves.

Can't say if it was the same issue, mine was an overuse injury not helped by the fact I run mid to fore foot.

I cured it by switching to a cross trainer for a couple of weeks along with therapeutic massage and ultrasound. Then eased my way back into running on the treadmill then on to the road again.

Manage it now by cold baths after my medium and long runs, self massage plus a once a month visit to the physio.

    Good luck
